Teaching nouns in an exciting way

Here's a simple but exciting way to teach nouns.

First, I help kids learn my "Get Down With the Noun" song from the video (or I just sing it with them.) Next, I start The Noun Countdown. Here's how: I set a 30 second (or one minute timer) and ask individuals or teams to name every person, place, or thing they know or can see in the room around them. Then, of course, I tell them that they just set the modern record for the Noun Countdown. Try it. You'll be shocked at the excitement this simple exercise can generate. Rinse and repeat so they can try to beat their noun-naming records each week.
